Saudi Arabia, as the largest oil producing country in the Middle East, has an amazing consumption capacity and is the largest end consumer market in the Middle East. As much as 60% of the Middle East imported commodities are consumed in Saudi Arabia. Compared with mature markets such as Europe, the United States and southeast Asia, it can better guarantee the profits of exporters. Thanks to weak local industry, 95% of its output is imported. Although Saudi Arabia engaged in building materials and interior decoration materials manufacturers continue to increase, but the Saudi government and the private sector have launched large infrastructure projects, the influence of domestic building materials market, significantly increased demand for cement, marble and ceramic tile, a lot of building materials and interior decoration materials are dependent on imports, construction machinery is totally dependent on imports. As the largest demander in the Middle East, the market vitality cannot be underestimated.
Saudi Arabia's population has exceeded 34 million by 2018 and is expected to grow from 34 million to 47 million by 2020. Saudi Arabia needs 3 million new homes by 2025, or 330,000 a year, according to the country's housing ministry. At present, the ministry of housing is operating a total of 187 housing projects, 233,651 units, of which 95 projects are in the design stage, 25 projects are in the issuing stage and 67 projects are in the implementation stage. Jeddah's city government will spend $400 billion over the next decade to build 200 skyscrapers on 10 main streets, 30 of which are expected to be completed in three years.
The total number of planned and ongoing projects in Saudi Arabia is expected to exceed 3.75 trillion riyals (about $1 trillion), covering transportation, infrastructure, education, health care, as well as road, rail and airport renovation. In recent years, the Saudi government has ramped up spending on livelihood, allocating 630 billion riyals ($168 billion) in the 2015 budget for infrastructure such as transport. At present, the major infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia mainly include: Riyadh metro project, Dammam, mecca and Haramain railway project, Riyadh and Jeddah international airport expansion and upgrading project, etc. The construction of these projects will certainly bring greater demand and business opportunities to the construction industry.
